What to Expect

How difficult is the route, and do I need to train?

The route is moderately challenging. You should be an intermediate level hiker and in reasonably good shape to undertake the hike. The terrain is hilly (not mountainous) with both ups and downs on uneven ground. We strongly encourage and recommend that you do some regular training prior to leaving for Israel.

How long will we be hiking each day?

We expect the hike to take anywhere from 3.5 to 5 hours each day, depending on your hiking speed.

Are there different routes each day?

No. We will all be walking the same challenging route. The difference will be in how quickly we hike.

What should I carry with me on the hike?

We highly recommend that each hiker carry two 1.5 litre bottles of water when you start out. There will be stops along the way to replenish. In addition to water, you should keep your passport, money and identification, a cell phone, rain gear (if the weather forecast indicates rain), a spare pair of socks, sunblock, band aids, (we recommend 2nd Skin for blisters), toilet paper and wipes (there will be no porta-potties on the route), emergency information cards (which we will provide for you) and some fruit or snacks.

Where will we have lunch each day?

Lunch will be at the approximate mid-point if the hike. On some days you will carry your lunch with you on others it will be set up picnic style along the route.

Will there be security and medical support on the route?

Yes, there will be several armed medics accompanying us.

Do we have guides?

Yes, in addition to the medics, there will be one guide for every group of hikers. The guides will be describing local points of interest along the route as well as providing any other technical or practical hiking assistance required.

What type of shoes should I wear?

We strongly recommend proper hiking boots with ankle support. Make sure that you have worn them and broken them in prior to the hike to avoid blisters. Open-toed sandals or hiking shoes will not be permitted.

What will the weather be like?

Generally, November is a delightful month in northern Israel. If we are lucky, we will be walking in t-shirts and shorts most days. However, we must be prepared for some rain and there is always the potential for a cold spell. We strongly recommend that you check the long range forecast prior to packing. Layers and rain gear are advised. A sun hat will be mandatory on hot days.

How much luggage should I bring?

The least amount possible. Each person will only be permitted one suitcase, and you may be required to carry it up two flights of stairs, so pack accordingly!

Where will we be staying and eating breakfast?

We will be staying at delightful kibbutz guest houses every night. Breakfasts will be eaten at our accommodation.

Where and when does the trip begin?

We will meet in Tel Aviv on Sunday morning, November the 2nd. We will travel by bus to Rosh Hanikra where there will be an opening ceremony, and then the hike will begin. Specific bus pickup point will be announced at a later date.

Where and when does the trip end?

Our final day of hiking is Thursday November 6th, when we arrive at the Sea of Galilee. In the afternoon, there will be a closing banquet and party for all participants. Buses will depart Thursday afternoon (exact time to be announced), November 6th, to take you back to Tel Aviv.

What does my participation fee cover?

Your fee covers everything you will need from Sunday morning when you get on the bus until Thursday evening when you arrive back in Tel Aviv, other than personal expenditures and alcoholic beverages. This includes all bus travel, all meals, all entertainment, all accommodations, all your guided hiking and special post-hike outings.

Does my fee actually cover all my costs?

No; in fact the trip costs substantially more per person than the registration fee. The shortfall is financed by our Corporate Sponsors of the event.

What are some of the special activities you have planned?

There will be optional adventures like rapelling at the Rainbow Cave and a visit to Sefat, as well as two theme nights, one of which will be a wonderful visit to a Druse Village for dinner and entertainment.

Are you offering any extensions to the trip?

Yes, we will be offering a two-night post hike Spa Experience at the Mount Carmel Spa which offers spa treatments as well as horsebackriding, swimming and other activities. An additional charge will apply and further details will be provided. If you wish to extend your visit in Israel, we suggest you contact Lorne Klemensberg at Routes Travel by email at info@routestravel.com

How many people will be staying in a room?

The standard registration fee is for 4 people per room. Please indicate whom you wish to room with on your registration form. There is a supplement of $100 per person who wish to book a double room.

Will we be interacting with any Victims of Terrorism who have been helped by the OneFamily Fund?

Yes. We will be joined along the route by a number of victims. You will have plenty of opportunity to meet them, ask questions and learn about their lives.

Join us in making a difference...one step at a time. OneStep. OneLife. OneFamily.
